Costa Rica: Pura Vida, Baby!

Why Costa Rica Should Be Your To Do List

Then VS. Now: 2012 vs. 2025

Let me tell y’all something — Costa Rica never misses. I just got back from my second trip there and baby… she understood the assignment again. The first time I visited was back in 2012 —  and even then, I knew there was something special about this place. That trip? We stayed at the Marriott Los Sueños (no all-inclusive, just vibes), and it was everything. I remember flying through the trees on what they claimed was the highest zip line in South America, and getting dirty 4-wheeling through the mountains like we were in an action movie. Wild, rugged, unforgettable.

But This time? Whew, the glow up was real.

Please believe I’ve been around the globe and know how to really curate a travel experience, so coming back to Costa Rica was like reconnecting with an old friend — but with better outfits, upgraded tastes, and a deeper appreciation for the vibe. As a travel agent, I took my time out to survey the area for my future guests.

This trip had:

  • A lot of down time at the pool sucking in that good ole vitamin D.
  • Pacific Coast beach moments with piña coladas in hand
  • Jungle hikes, waterfalls, and zip lining was traded for sauna time, hydrotherapy treatments and massages on the beach.
  • .nah not this time! 🙂
  • Sleeping, mingling, food time and me time

So let’s talk about the biggest difference between Trip 1 and Trip 2: All-inclusive.

Back in 2012, we booked the beautiful Marriott Los Sueños — no all-inclusive, which meant every meal, drink, and activity was out-of-pocket and required planning. It was still a vibe, but we were constantly making decisions, finding restaurants, and checking costs. You’re having fun, but your mind’s always half-on logistics.

This time, I stayed at Planet Hollywood Costa Rica and y’all — I’ll admit something:

I usually don’t do all-inclusives.

Why? Because most of the time the food is bland, basic and gives “cafeteria with a view.”

But Planet Hollywood? Surprised the hell out of me. The food was actually good — flavorful, fresh and served with style. Add in the endless cocktails, resort entertainment and easy access to everything? It made the entire trip smooth and stress-free.

For a TravelGurls trip, that matters. It gave us the freedom to focus on fun, not figuring things out.

Costa Rica Is the Blueprint for Balance

It gives you wild and calm. Thrill and peace. Salsa and stillness. And no matter how you move, you move in Pura Vida — a lifestyle that’s all about ease, joy, and living in the moment.

It’s not just a slogan. It’s a reminder to slow down and feel life.

Group Trip-Ready and Gorgeous

One of the things I love most? Costa Rica is perfect for group travel. Whether you want adrenaline, spa days, or food tours — there’s something for every type of TravelGurl/Guy. It’s affordable, accessible and has the kind of energy that bonds a group in the best way.

And Yes, We’re Going Back

You already know I’m planning another TravelGurls experience here. If you’re trying to turn up and turn inward, stay tuned — because next time, you’re coming with me.

Pura Vida, Gurls. Costa Rica is proof that when the destination is right, you can go back and still be blown away. I’ve done it twice. And if I have anything to say about it? I’ll be back again.
